A stylish and appealing interface makes it easy to see the latest security status for various areas, with panels for “Computer”, “Web”, “Identity” and “Email”. (There’s also a greyed-out “Firewall”, but that’s only accessible in the commercial version.)

Each panel represents an aspect of AVG Free’s protection – antivirus, browsing protection, behavioural monitoring and email scanning – and you can click any of these to enable, disable or configure it to suit your needs.

You’ll probably be more interested in checking your system for malware, though, and that’s just as straightforward: click “Scan Now” and watch as the program goes to work.

If you need more control, click the gear icon next to “Scan Now” and you’re able to check specific files or folders, run different scan types, or use the flexible scheduler to automatically run scans whenever you like.

The program also comes with AVG Zen, which allows you to monitor and manage AVG installations across all your devices.

Upgrading to the PRO edition gets you improved browsing protection, priority security updates, a smart firewall, spam filter, file encryption and more.

AVG 2016 includes these changes:
– Cloud-based protection to identify even the very latest threats right away
– Smarter behavioural monitoring helps to find undiscovered malware
– Full Windows 10 support
